We were desperate for the footy and it showed. We were also courageous with some great smothers and backing back into packs. A great team display. The big prize is in our next challenge. I am sure you are up to it. I am very proud of you all." Congratulations to Joshua Goudge on reaching your 50th game for Beleura - a great achievement! We will celebrate your milestone properly at our Thursday night training - Well done mate.

There was some brilliant skills on display today and some very unselfish acts. We are a very even team and it shows with a good spread of goalkickers. We now go into finals and need to be aware of keeping to our team rules and be just as desperate for the footy as we have been all season. The real battles are about to begin!" Congratulations on 50 games for Beleura to Callum Woods and Michael West - a supreme effort.
ROUND 15: BELEURA RED 0.2 2.2 6.3 7.3 (45) defeated Beleura Blue 0.0 0.2 0.2 0.3 (3) GOALKICKERS: Matthew Mayne (2), Shelby Burdett (2), Liam Reilly (1), Sam Lee-Conway (1), Jack Hodgetts (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Jakob Harris, Shelby Burdett, William Harris, Lochlan Merriner COACHES COMMENTS: After a slow start we got going late in the second quarter. Beleura Blue really served it up to us early but I was glad to see us finally click into gear. The third quarter was especially good where we used our run and good footy skills to break the game right open. We must get back to congratulating our team mates for good work around the ground - that's what team footy is about. Well done boys."
ROUND 14 BELEURA RED 3.2 5.2 7.2 10.4 (64) defeated Hastings 0.0 0.1 1.1 1.1 (7) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (3), Sam Lee-Conway (2), Shelby Burdett (1), William Harris (1), Zach Hassan (1), Joshua Goudge (1), Lachlan Dalziel (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Jack Hodgetts, Jack Cooper, Brandon Bartolo, Nathan A'Vard, Lachlan Dalziel COACHES COMMENTS: "Great effort and well played today guys. The forwards are leading up well and improving in each game. Keeping taking your chances in the game and believe in yourselves - you are all capable of great things. Well done again today.
ROUND 13 BELEURA RED 3.3 3.5 5.7 6.8 (44) defeated Pearcedale/Baxter 1.1 1.1 2.1 2.5 (17) GOALKICKERS: Shelby Burdett (2), Zach Hassan (2), Ryan Abbott (1), William Harris (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Zach Hassan, Ryan Abbott, Brodey Shand, Zane Bradberry, Matthew Mayne, Michael West COACHES COMMENTS: "Top effort today boys against a finals team. We were prepared to take on the opposition and run with the ball alot more than last week. Our tackles were fierce and most of our forwards led very well. Just be carefull about paying too much attention to our full back line, and not having any players there at half back. This happened in the last quarter where we got possesion at full back but kicked straight back to Pearcedale - we needed 2 or 3 players to come out and be our next target. Well done on a top game. Congratulations to Sam Lee-Conway on 50 great Beleura games - a superb milestone."
ROUND 12: BELEURA RED 1.0 1.0 2.2 2.2 (14) defeated by Crib Point 1.0 2.2 2.2 3.6 (24) GOALKICKERS: Matthew Mayne (1), Jack Hodgetts (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Lochlan Merriner, Matthew Mayne, Sam Lee-Conway, Callum Woods, Shelby Burdett COACHES COMMENTS: "A disappointing result, but we learn from this, remember how it feels, and improve. The biggest thing out of the game was that we were not prepared to take on opposition players when we had the ball. Today, it was just a 'safer' option to kick the ball first, rather than going for a run and break through some tackles. That's what they did to us today and we need to do this more starting from next week. Let's have a really good week at training this week and bring our tough team footy back. Remember, Tuesday's training is at Mt Eliza. Heads up - get back on the winners list next week."
ROUND 11: BELEURA RED 1.2 5.7 6.8 9.9 (63) defeated Somerville Blue 1.1 1.1 2.2 2.2 (14) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (3), Sam Lee-Conway (2), Liam Reilly (1), Michael West (1), Jakob Harris (1), Nathan A'Vard (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Ryan Abbott, Brandon Bartolo, William Harris, Jakob Harris, Tyson Kidd, Lachlan Dalziel COACHES COMMENTS: "Not a great first quarter. We were not prepared to go in and get the ball, and do the hard and tough work. But after quarter time, we lifted and started being first to the ball and prepared to tackle to win possession. Our forwards still need to learn to lead, rather standing there with an arm in the air. We will get better and we have a lot of improvement to come. Work hard at training during the week, and it will pay off. Good win today boys - well done. Congratulations to Jack Hodgetts on your 50th game - a magnificent effort."
ROUND 10: BELEURA RED 3.0 3.1 3.4 5.6 (36) defeated Somerville 0.0 0.1 0.1 0.1 (1) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (2), Shelby Burdett (1), Sam Lee-Conway (1), Michael West (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Joshua Goudge, Liam Reilly, Michael West, Zane Bradberry, Brodey Shand COACHES COMMENTS: "Very wet conditions today, but everyone played good wet weather footy. Missing Zach, Coops, and Tyson today meant we only played with 17, but everyone contributed and got involved. By playing in front, and using quick movement of the ball, we overcame Someville with our style of footy. Our backline, again, was great today, led by Jakob, Liam and Michael across half back in the first & last quarters. Zane put on some bruiser tackles, and Brodey became a ball magnet. Josh worked tirelessly on the ball today and the rest of the team are tight and play for eachother. Well done." A big thank you to Andy and Maree Reilly for donating sports bags to everyone in the team - very generous. Now the whole team will look professional as well. Thank you. Also thanks to Alison Shand for the delicious cup cakes after the game, and a big Happy Birthday to Brodey.
ROUND 9: BELEURA RED 3.2 6.4 9.6 12.9 (81) defeated Devon Meadows 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 (0) GOALKICKERS: Michael West (2), Jack Cooper (1), Ryan Abbott (1), Shelby Burdett (1), Matthew Mayne (1), Zane Bradberry (1), Nathan A'Vard (1), Lochlan Merriner (1), MATCH DAY AWARDS: William Harris, Jack Hodgetts, Jack Cooper, Shelby Burdett COACHES COMMENTS: "Best team game I have seen you guys play. With eleven different goal kickers and now almost everyone kicking a goal this year, just shows that we play footy for each other. Some very unselfish play today and you were all very disciplined by keeping the forward line open. Our talking around the ground improved as well as our positioning. Considering the almost constant rain during the game, there were some great skills out there. A big 'Well Done' to everyone!"
ROUND 8: BELEURA RED 0.0 4.2 4.2 7.3 (45) defeated Beleura Blue 1.0 2.2 3.7 3.7 (25) GOALKICKERS: Sam Lee-Conway (2), Liam Reilly (2), Matthew Mayne (1), Wiliam Harris (1), Shelby Burdett (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Matthew Mayne, Callum Woods, Lachlan Dalziel, Ryan Abbott, Nathan A'vard, Liam Reilly COACHES COMMENTS: "A hard fought game where we had to work hard for the footy. Our positioning was a lot better as the game wore on, but our talk needs more work. Some great individual efforts today, in particular Nathan in his first game, Liam who was just super, Jakob who showed he could play in any position, Matthew who marked everything, and I could go on...I will keep mixing things up with positions in the coming weeks to keep challenging you. Congratulations on the game and well done to Beleura Blue on a very competitive game." Congratulations also to Nathan A'vard on your first game with Beleura - Welcome to the club.
ROUND 7: BELEURA RED 3.0 4.1 7.3 8.4 (52) defeated Hastings 0.0 1.0 1.0 1.2 (8) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (3), Sam Lee-Conway (2), Shelby Burdett (2), Matthew Mayne (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Tyson Kidd, Lochlan Merriner, Zane Bradberry, Liam Reilly COACHES COMMENTS: "Wow! A magnificent game today boys. Congratulations on a solid team performance. Our back line was dominant again and you have proved to yourselves and the opposition that you are a force. Don't stop now though - We need to keep this going starting next week. Very proud of all of you.
ROUND 6: BELEURA RED 1.0 2.2 4.2 4.5 (29) defeated Pearcedale/Baxter 1.1 2.1 2.1 2.4 (16) GOALKICKERS: Zach Hassan (1), Sam Lee-Conway (1), William Harris (1), Jack Cooper (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Zach Hassan, Sam Lee-Conway, Michael West, Brodey Shand COACHES COMMENTS: "A great result against a quality team. We started slow, but as the game wore on we improved. Well done to the back line who stuck to their task all game. Congratulations on an important win. Congratulations also to Matthew Mayne on your 50th game for Beleura - Well Done. Thank you also to the Under 10s Red players who supported us and sat on the bench for us all game - thanks for your support."
ROUND 5: BELEURA RED 2.3 4.3 7.6 8.7 (55) defeated Crib Point 1.0 2.3 3.3 7.4 (46) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (3), Shelby Burdett (1), Sam Lee-Conway (1), Ryan Abbott (1), Zach Hassan (1), Jakob Harris (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Liam Reilly, Joshua Goudge, William Harris, Jack Cooper, Jack Hodgetts, Jakob Harris COACHES COMMENTS: "A great game by you today against a quality team. We relaxed in the last quarter though and let them back in it. Just be careful not to get ahead of ourselves or we will regret it. Some great team work was shown by you as well as a big desire for the footy. Let's learn from this game and put in a full four quarter effort next week. Well done." A big thank you to Mark Goudge who ran the boundary today at short notice - Cheers.
ROUND 4: BELEURA RED 4.0 6.1 8.5 10.8 (68) defeated Somerville Blue 1.2 1.2 1.2 1.3 (9) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (3), Matthew Mayne (2), Zach Hassan (2), Sam Lee-Conway (2), Callum Woods (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Brandon Bartolo, Brodey Shand, Matthew Mayne, Ryan Abbott COACHES COMMENTS: "A good win today, but not great. We will need to put in alot of hard work at training in the coming week. We were out tackled and our team work wasn't where it should be. We seemed to just kick the ball anywhere and not look where we were kicking it. The next three weeks will really test us starting with Crib Point next week. We will need to be right on the top of our game to have a good result against them. Very happy with Brandon and Brodey especially today - your footy is improving all the time. Congratulations to Jack Cooper on your first game with Beleura."
ROUND 3: BELEURA RED 0.1 4.5 7.5 11.6 (72) defeated Somerville 1.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 (12) GOALKICKERS: Jack Hodgetts (3), Matthew Mayne (3), Liam Reilly (1), Sam Lee-Conway (1), Zach Hassan (1), Shelby Burdett (1), Zane Bradberry (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Joshua Goudge, Zach Hassan, Callum Woods, Lachlan Dalziel COACHES COMMENTS: "Magnificent game today boys against a top team. I was most impressed with your team work and how you all held your positions. I'm very proud of you all, especially how you all play for eachother. Well done!" A big thank you to Shirley Burdett for supplying and preparing the oranges for the team week after week. It makes such a difference. Thanks. MATCH COMMENTARY: 1st Quarter: Very tight first quarter with a bit of a tug of war. Josh and Liam were everywhere and the ball was going from one end of the ground to the other. The boys were all fired up, but couldn't manage a goal this quarter with Somerville kicking the only goal. 2nd Quarter: Big difference this quarter with alot more run and some fierce tackling which sparked the team. Goals to Liam, Zane, Jack and Matt really put a stamp on the game and Somerville were left scoreless and with plenty to do. 3rd Quarter: The whole team was firing now and the longer the game goes, the more dominant we are. Josh and Liam had alot of the play and were working well together. A great goal this quarter from Zach who received a perfect tap from Callum - a superb goal. Jack capped off the quarter with two further goals and the team were rolling to a great win. 4th Quarter: The last quarter was more of the same with every player contributing. Goals to Shelby, Sam and two to Matt finished off an excellent win against quality opposition. Well done Boys!
ROUND 2: BELEURA RED 3.6 7.6 8.17 12.23 (95) defeated Devon Meadows 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 (0) GOALKICKERS: Shelby Burdett (4), Jakob Harris (2), Joshua Goudge (1), William Harris (1), Sam Lee-Conway (1), Liam Reilly (1), Callum Woods (1), Brenn Lockhart-Meaney (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Shelby Burdett, Jakob Harris, Liam Reilly, Michael West COACHES COMMENTS: "Great team work today. Your passing to your team mates was excellent. Like I said after the game, we need to stop crowding the forward line. Once we do this, and stay in our positions, than anything is possible for us. Well done today on a dominant win." Thanks to Brenn, Lewis, Bailey, and Lochlan Haskett from the Under 10s for the help you gave us today. Well done boys! MATCHDAY COMMENTARY: Second Quarter: This quarter the team played more direct and down the middle. Brodey passed the ball very well this quarter and this seemed to affect the whole team, with some great passing from one end of the ground to the other. Four goals straight this quarter and the opposition were left with plenty to do. Two goals to Shelby, one to Jakob, and the other to Brenn capped off a dominant quarter. Just need to be careful with too many free kicks given away. Third Quarter: The boys really controlled the game this quarter with the opposition barely getting the ball in to their forward line at all. But everyone was starting to get hungry for goals with our forward line looking more like peak hour at Flinders Street! An unbelievable 11 behinds were kicked this quarter and one goal to Jakob. More talking was needed and a more open forward line if we are going to take full advantage of our control of the game. Fourth Quarter: Alot better this quarter with the game much more open. Shelby kicked another two goals to bring his tally to four for the game - a top effort. Liam and Will also kicked goals and Jakob was outstanding in the ruck giving us some great centre clearances where Sam roved well. A very one-sided game, but their is still more improvement in the boys and they will need to work on a few things before they play the top sides. Well done Reds - you were great sports!
ROUND 1: BELEURA RED 4.0 5.0 7.2 8.6 (54) defeated Beleura Blue 0.0 2.1 2.1 3.1 (19) GOALKICKERS: Shelby Burdett (2), Tyson Kidd (2), Lachlan Dalziel (1), Jack Hodgetts (1), Matthew Mayne (1), Callum Woods (1) MATCH DAY AWARDS: Tyson Kidd, Sam Lee-Conway, Lochlan Merriner, Zane Bradberry COACHES COMMENTS: "Great first up game today boys in difficult conditions. We need to keep improving and working hard for eachother. Just be careful about giving away silly free kicks and not crowding the forward line. Today, you showed that you are great sports and protected eachother well. Top job! A big thank you to the Under 10 boys who helped us out today." MATCHDAY COMMENTARY: First Quarter The first forward move was Sam with a good run and two bounces, however, at the 3 minute mark Jack delivered the ball to Matt who kicked the first goal for the year waking the grandparents and bringing the crowd to their feet. A minute later Sam ran onto a loose ball and put one through the big sticks. At the 9 minute mark Michael laid a great tackle and was rewarded with the ball. He kicked it to Callum who marked strongly and goaled. Another fierce tackle at the 14 minute mark by Tyson resulted in a free kick for dropping the ball which he capped off with the fourth straight major for the quarter. Second Quarter The first quarter of the year was now over and the nerves were gone. Welcome to the big league. Kicking into the wind and the McDonald's end Brodey worked hard to get possession and handball to Josh who shot it out to Liam. Liam took off cutting through the wind like a knife. On bounce, two bounces, it was looking like he was going to run it all the way to score until the umpies whistle blew, "too far he cried" or was it too far for him to catch up? The latter I think. Lachlan was able to kick the first goal against the strong wind well done. Some fantastic shepherding by the defenders gave the speedster Matt the opportunity to have three bounces and run the ball out of the danger zone. This quarter saw the first 50 metre penalty given to Jack from the kick in. The quarter ended in one goal a piece however ours was against the cyclonic wind. Third Quarter This quarter was hard fought and very scrappy. We were given a goal that looked like it was touched by Jayden from the other side. Was there sand in the goalies eyes or did he have one eye? The only real forward attack was stopped by the ever reliable Liam. A lot of free kicks were awarded to the opposition during this quarter which is something we need to keep an eye on. This quarter had the play of the match. Liam gained possession of the ball and got it to Michael who took off, one bounce, two, three, four bounces then he delivered it to Sam who kicked it toward the forwards. Jack and Lochy both leading together couldn’t decide who was going to mark it so it spilled to the ground. Jack picked it up and kicked it to the square where a flash of blonde hair picked it up and nailed another goal. Nice one Josh. Fourth Quarter Every one was tired and we were once again faced with the strong wind. The first score was a goal to the opposition at the 2 minute mark. At the 5 minute mark Josh was able to get the ball to Jack who kicked a goal using the old inverted banana. At about the 11 minute mark we peppered the goals without a major. It looked like too many players were crowding the forward line looking for a goal. We need to be more disciplined especially late in the game. We had our first and hopefully last 50 metre penalty given against us which saw their full back take his kick-in near the square. With our big men winning the ruck all day it was good to see Callum punch the ball forward 30 metres at a ball up so our on-ballers could run onto it. A special mention to Liam this quarter for dishing out more tackles than Rex Hunt. It's good to have a win and sing the song for the first time this season - well done boys. We must congratulate the Beleura Blue team for a very good tuff first up game. They played exceptionally well and worked together as a team even though they had some younger under 10's fill in who they hadn't played or trained with before. Congratulations everyone.
