UNDER 10s LEAGUE CARNIVAL:
GOALKICKERS: Michael Parry (1), Khyal Jacobson (1) MATCH COMMENTARY: Having never played South Mornington we had nothing to lose. So we came out strong! Very fast, good fair bumps and teamwork had us on the board with Khyal 'energizer' passing to Michael 'sure thing' at full forward for the first goal. The second half saw are intensity grow again as the guys got their feet and our confidence rose. With 'monster' Max playing some of his best footy for the year. Rhys and Kianne "wellsy" were into the packs scrapping the ball out for a goal to Khyal and a win in the first round.
GOALKICKERS: Rhys McLaren (2), Liam Adcock (1) MATCH COMMENTARY: The heartbreaker for the day was our game with Rye. Fast strong team footy straight from the siren had us with a 2 goal to 1 lead at half time. Nathan Jewell 'jules' was constantly charging the ball back out of the backline and strong ruck work from Scott 'superboot' gave us plenty of opportunities in the forward line. Rhys 'golden boots' put two goals through from strong marks in the forward line. The second half had the parents on the side with hearts in their throats. Rye fought back kicking two goals to our one. Liam's 'smasher' goal came from an unorthodox hold, but travelled a mile and landed through surprising everyone on both sides. Jackson 'muscles' was so pumped up he even lifted a Rye player out of the way to get to the ball! Unfortunately it was not to be with Rye's lonely point in the first half being the decider.
GOALKICKERS: Rhys McLaren (1), Josh Stringer (1), Khyal Jacobson (1), Lachlan Haskett (1) MATCH COMMENTARY: Our old foes Pearcedale/Baxter were the only team we had played in the group during the year and we had a score to settle. With little time to rest after our Rye game the guys had to regroup quickly. Lachie H 'the traveller' and Jake 'hard yakka' teamed up with Kianne in the middle to surprise Pearcedale and push the ball out of the middle and straight into the hands of Rhys for a quick goal. Moments later the ball was in the forward line again and this time Josh Stringer 'wingman' found himself in the right place at the right time, grabbed the ball out of the air and surprised everyone around him with a bouncing goal snapped from the pocket. An injury to the Pearcedales ruckman saw the game held up and a longer break. This didn't slow us down! Jake and Rhys stepped up intensity and Lachie McCready 'macca' moved the ball through the packs to give Khyal opportunity for another goal. Lachie Haskett's continued work payed off with a hard fought goal for him in the 2nd half.
MATCH COMMENTARY: Our final game and I think we just ran out of puff. Try as we might we just couldn't get past Rosebud's defence. Michael worked hard with what he received but unfortunately he managed our only score for the match. Khyal, Jake and Lachie H moved the ball forward but we couldn't find any opportunities. Lewis 'tricky', Jacob 'the matrix' and Corey 'shales' worked tirelessly taking any opportunity to get the ball to the half forwards but Rosebud Navy were a strong physical side and left a trail of bodies behind them. COACHES COMMENTS: Without a doubt this was a fantastic day, full of teamwork, skills and a great work ethic from everyone. I want to take the time to thank our helpers on the day, Ian Diprose for patching up the blisters, scratches and bruises. Alyson for herding the cats into the right place. Peter for waving the flags even when the other guys scored. Wayne for running backwards and forwards with messages to tired young players. Mark for keeping everyone hydrated. And Jake for blowing the whistle and looking after our battered all-stars as they tried their hearts out all day. See you all at Presentation day! Cheers Coach" ROUND 16: Beleura 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.1 (1) defeated by Rosebud 3.2 5.3 6.4 7.4 (46) COACHES COMMENTS: "A slow start today left us flat for the first half. Stand outs in the first half included Lachlan Hasket's strong bumps and Jake's long run to stop the oppostion. In the third quaarter we woke up and Lachlan McCready stood up strong. Our last quarter saw our temwork return with Kianne, Jake and Khyal controlling the middle. Guys, teamwork is more important than the score and our best games this year have been when we ran to help a mate or trusted in one another to do the right thing! It's been a great year, lets finish strong at the carnival!" BEST PLAYERS: Josh Stringer, Lachlan McCready, Jake Pelham, Lachlan Haskett, Michael Parry, Nathan Jewell ROUND 15: Beleura 2.5 3.5 4.5 5.5 (35) defeated Somerville Gold 0.0 0.2 1.4 2.8 (20) COACHES COMMENTS: "The team's back! We backed ourselves today and came out on top. Liam's bumps and Khyal and Lewis working together. Corey's strong mark in the forward line almost ended in a goal. Scott's goal was great with teamwork from Michael. Brenn was fantastic in the backline stopping last minute goals. Great work guys." BEST PLAYERS: Brenn Lockhart-Meaney, Jacob Lawson, Nathan Jewell, James Sampson, Nathan Smith, Liam Adcock GOALKICKERS: Lewis Trickett-Baines (3), Scott Hutchins (1), Max Rees (1) ROUND 14: Beleura 0.1 0.4 0.4 0.5 (5) defeated by Somerville Blue 1.0 1.1 2.2 3.2 (20) COACHES COMMENTS: "A windy day today meant stray kicks kept us off the scoreboard. Liam's bumps were strong and Rhys' marks were fantastic. We left too many holes in the backline and Somervlle Blue came to play leaving us standing still. Lets finish strong guys - only two games left." Welcome back James Sampson - we needed you back from England weeks ago! BEST PLAYERS: Scott Hutchins, Rhys McLaren, Khyal Jacobson, Corey Shale, Nathan Smith, Josh Stringer
ROUND 13: Beleura 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.1 (7) defeated by Mt Martha 0.1 3.5 7.8 8.9 (57) COACHES COMMENTS: "Like a rat up a drain pipe Beleura in the first quarter were unstoppable. They matched the strongest team in our division and stepped up a notch, kicking a goal and a point to Mt Marthas single point. Max put pressure on, keeping the ball out of Mt Martha’s clutches. Rhys and Jacob marked strongly on the last line of defence, keeping Mt Martha off the scoreboard. Unfortunately we woke the sleeping giant and Mt Martha came back hard in the 2nd quarter. We tried valiantly, but skill errors and small mistakes allowed Mt Martha to capitalise, putting on three goals and leaving us standing still. Brenn and Nathan Jewell stood out with strong kicks and marks. While Khyal kept pushing the ball forward only to be thwarted by Mt Martha’s tall timber. The coaching staff looked for a revival in the 3rd quarter but unfortunately it never arrived. Alyson, Ian and Andrew coached from the sides as loud as they could but they couldn't turn the tables. Lindsay took message after message out the team, but again we failed to man up against a strong team and it showed on the scoreboard. Jackson took a strong mark in the forward line and got passed the jitters and sent the ball towards the goal. Unfortunately Mt Martha was tall enough to pull Jacksons kick out the air before it crossed the line. Determined to make a go of the last quarter, everyone left for the ground with a roar of "Beleura" and their heads held high. Immediately Josh saught out his man sticking to him like glue. Frustrating his opponent so much he couldn't get the ball clear of our forward line. Liam drove in a bump that rattled Mt Martha and had them looking backwards to avoid him for the rest of the quarter. We made the commitment to go in and get the ball! The commitment showed when Jake and Lewis collided, both with eyes for the ball. Lewis came off second best but his courage had him out for only a few minutes before he was right back in the game. It would have been a fairy tale to end the game with a few goals, but it was not to be. We settled with keeping Mt Martha to a goal in the last. Well done guys, you stood up today, lets make it 4 quarters and we will never look back! BEST PLAYERS: Joshua Stringer, Liam Adcock, Lewis Trickett-Baines, Corey Shale, Nathan Jewell, Jackson Basse GOALKICKERS: Khyal Jacobson (1)
ROUND 12: Beleura 0.0 0.1 0.2 1.1 (7) defeated by Pearcedale/Baxter 1.4 1.8 3.9 4.9 (33) COACHES COMMENTS: " Well guys, we were flat today and it showed in the first quarter with missed opportunities. The second quarter had Jake saving and stopping goals in the back line and a better team effort. Brenn's bumping stood out in the third quarter. Our fourth quarter finally got us into the game with Rhys' goal and great effort from Jacob." BEST PLAYERS: Jake Pelham, Brenn Lockhart-Meaney, Jacob Lawson, Jackson Basse, Lachlan McCready, Max Rees GOALKICKERS: Rhys McLaren (1) ROUND 11: Beleura 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.2 (2) defeated by Rosebud 2.2 3.3 4.4 4.6 (30) COACHES COMMENTS: "Great effort kids after a slow start and first quarter. We just kept improving and having Scott and James out, it was a mighty effort by all of you. The comments by the Rosebud coach just back this this up. The parents, club and myself are very proud. BEST PLAYERS: Michael Parry, Lachlan Haskett, Khyal Jacobson, Kianne Wells, Jake Pelham ROUND 10: Beleura 0.1 3.1 4.3 4.3 (27) defeated Somerville Gold 1.0 1.2 1.3 1.3 (9) COACHES COMMENTS: "A slow start to the first quarter saw us one goal down and busy in our back line. Great marks from Brenn and Lewis saw the ball pushed back. Wow guys, the second quarter saw a big change. Passes from Rhys and Lewis got the ball into the forward line with three unanswered goals. Jake's valiant work on the last line of defence kept Somerville to two behinds. The third quarter had Khyal push forward delivering a tremendous bump, stopping a player much taller and bigger. The last quarter hadboth sides working so hard that no one scored. Michael seems to have a ball magnet on his chest and never drops a mark. Fantastic game guys!" BEST PLAYERS: Lewis Trickett-Baines, Michael Parry, Jacob Lawson, Rhys McLaren, Brenn Lockhart-Meaney GOALKICKERS: James Sampson (2), Khyal Jacobson (1), Lewis Trickett-Baines (1) ROUND 9: Beleura 0.1 4.2 5.3 5.4 (34) defeated Somerville Blue 0.0 0.0 0.1 0.1 (1) COACHES COMMENTS: "A slow start to the game but great teamwork between Lewis and Jacob. The second quarter had Khyal in the forward pocket for the first time with a four goal reward. Jake pushed the ball down to Rhys and Rhys fed Khyal for our first goal. Great teamwork in the third quarter kept the ball in forward line. In the fourth quarter Michael out marked everyone." BEST PLAYERS: Khyal Jacobson, Michael Parry, Nathan Jewell, Lachlan McCready, Brenn Lockhart-Meaney, Nathan Smith GOALKICKERS: Khyal Jacobson (5) ROUND 8: Beleura 0.1 0.1 0.4 1.4 (10) defeated by Mt Martha 1.0 4.2 5.2 6.3 (39) COACHES COMMENTS: "A slow start to the first half, but we saw some strong marks for Jake, Khyal and Lewis. Today our second half was fantastic. Great work from Kianne who was pushing the ball forward with Lewis shooting for goal. Last quarter had Michael in hard for the ball. And a great piece of play between Khyal and Brenn. All this lead to a great goal for Nathan Gamble. Corey's last 2nd bump kept the pressure on. A big thank you to Kane Gipp and Nathan Gamble for their help today!" BEST PLAYERS: Kianne Wells, Khyal Jacobson, Jackson Bosse, Jake Pelham, Brenn Lockhart-Meany, Nathan Smith GOALKICKERS: Nathan Gamble (1) ROUND 7: Beleura 0.4 2.5 3.6 3.6 (24) defeated by Pearcedale/Baxter 0.0 0.0 2.0 4.5 (29) COACHES COMMENTS: "Fantastic intensity in the first quarter with a magic piece of play from Lachlan H. to Lewis to Michael. Unfortunately four points in the first quarter and no goals. The second quarter was great with Rhys and Lewis getting us on the board and Brenn taking a fantastic mark up forward. The third quarter was great with another goal to Rhys and fantastic work from Scott. Our last quarter had us asleep and Pearcedale took the game!" Welcome back Brenn - great work for your first game for four weeks. BEST PLAYERS: Lachlan Haskett, Liam Adcock, Nathan Jewell, Jake Pelham, Corey Shale, Jackson Basse
GOALKICKERS: Rhys McLaren (2), Lewis Trickett-Baines (1)
ROUND 6: Beleura 0.0 0.1 0.2 0.2 (2) defeated by Rosebud 1.3 1.3 2.3 6.3 (39) COACHES COMMENTS: "A slow start to the game today. We let Rosebud run away and we never really caught up. Our second quarter was much better and we had the ball on our forward line and stopped Rosebud. Lewis had a fantastic mark and Liam's sprint and bump put Rosbud under pressure. The third quarter saw lots of good work from Michael in the ruck and a great mark to Michael as well. Liam continued his bumps keeping Rosebud to one goal. In the last quarter we ran out of legs. Khyal never stopped running all day and controlled the ball all game."
BEST PLAYERS: Khyal Jacobson, Jake Pelham, Kianne Wells, Lewis Tricket Baines, Scott Hutchins, James Sampson
ROUND 5: Beleura 2.1 3.3 3.3 4.7 (31) defeated Somerville Gold 1.3 1.3 3.3 3.3 (27) COACHES COMMENTS: "Fantastic effort this week guys. A close game and well played. Great ruck work from Max and Scott and lots of second efforts. We were tired in the third quarter but came home strong in the last. Well done everyone!" A great first game from Lachlan McReady.
